Sadly, some people take advantage of students’ dreams of studying abroad. Learn the warning signs so you can protect your money and your future.
Warning signs
- “Guaranteed” visas or admission, whatever your results.
- Scholarships that ask you to pay a fee to apply or to “release” the award.
- Pressure to pay quickly, in cash, or into a personal account.
- Universities you cannot find on the UGC website.
- Visa “agents” using unofficial websites.
How to protect yourself
- Verify every university at ugc.gov.in.
- Apply for visas only at indianvisaonline.gov.in.
- Pay university fees directly to the university’s official account and keep receipts.
- Ask current students about their experience.
