India is one of the most diverse countries on earth, with many languages, religions, cuisines and festivals. Embracing it is part of the adventure.
Food
Indian food varies by region, and much of it is vegetarian. Rice, chapati, lentils (dal) and vegetables will feel familiar. Start with milder dishes. In bigger cities you can often find African restaurants and shops selling ingredients from home, and many students cook together.
Festivals
Diwali (the festival of lights), Holi (the festival of colours), Eid, Christmas and many regional festivals are celebrated widely. Students are often invited to join in.
Language
Classes are in English, and English is widely used in cities. Learning a few words of Hindi or the local language helps with shopping and making friends.
Making friends
Join student clubs, sports teams and your campus African association. Mixing with Indian and international classmates makes your experience richer and builds a global network for your career.
